The Fifa world cup 2018 Round of 16 Begins....

This is the knockout stage of the competition and this is where you separate the men from the boys.

Spain vs Russia

This was the first game in this competition that was decided on penalties. The Spanish had all the ball possession and the Russians defended for 2 hours. The plan of the Russian team was to defend all through the game and go for a counter attack if the Spanish made any errors. It actually worked as the Russians beat Spain (2010 World cup champions) on penalties 4-3.

Russia GK Igor Akinfeev won The Budweiser #Man of the Match for #ESPRUS. His two penalty shoot out saves send @teamrussia into the #WorldCup quarter finals.

Croatia vs Denmark

The second knockout phase game between Croatia and Denmark went the distance and also went to penalties with the Croatians winning 3-2. Luka Modric, the Real Madrid champions league winner had the opportunity to kill the game in extra time but he missed the penalty. Luka Modric captain of the Croatian team took a second penalty scoring this time around. It was an explosive and mesmerizing penalty shootout as the Croatian goalkeeper Danijel Subasic and Casper Schmeichel saved 3 penalties each. In the end Croatia won and are through to the quarter finals.

Kasper, ‘The Cat’ won The Budweiser Man of the match for #CRODEN

This World Cup is full of surprises, no Italy, no Germany, no Portugal, no Argentina, and no Spain.

Round of 16 matches today are:

Brazil vs Mexico

Belgium vs Japan

And tomorrow Tuesday, 3rd of July 2018

England vs Columbia

Sweden vs Switzerland

The battle continues……
