Guy Scott Makes History As First White African President

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama greet The Honorable Dr. Guy Scott, Vice President of the Republic of Zambia, and Dr. Charlotte Harland Scott
70-year-old Dr. Guy Scott who is of Scottish descent but born in Zambia took the reins in Zambia as he became the first white African President in sub-Saharan Africa since apartheid.

He was sworn in today as the interim president of Zambia following the recent death of Zambian president Michael Sata.

In 2011, He became the vice president to his boss, President Michael Sata who died Tuesday while undergoing treatment for an unknown illness in London.

Zambia's constitution requires fresh elections within 90 days. so,until then, Scott, who is of Scottish descent, assumes interim presidency.

It's unclear, however, whether he can run for President in the elections. The nation's constitution says a candidate's parents must have been born in Zambia; unfortunately, his were not.
