Last week, Ramona Singer of the Bravo reality TV series The Real Housewives of New York City announced on social media that her marriage to husband Mario Singer was sooo over due to his continued infidelity. Today we hear from Ramona again about the end of her marriage in a new interview she gave to People magazine. Although she says that she was willing to forgive Mario‘s “mistake” when he cheated last year, she felt compelled to end her marriage after he continued to make the mistake of cheating on her this year.
Ending her 22-year marriage last month was one of the hardest things Ramona Singer has ever had to do. But after giving her husband, Mario, “many chances” following a cheating scandal earlier this year, only to learn he had reportedly reconnected with his mistress again this summer, the Real Housewives of New York City star says she had enough. “I tried to make my marriage work because I have strong values and I believe that people make mistakes,” Singer, 57, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “But you reach a point where you realize the other person isn’t putting in as much effort as you are. And I reached my breaking point.” Though she says she kicked him out July 24, Singer only announced the split last Thursday, several days after Mario and his alleged girlfriend, Kasey Dexter, 32, were caught on camera dining at an N.Y.C. restaurant. The two have since stepped out together in public, attending an event in the Hamptons last weekend. (Calls by PEOPLE to Dexter, Mario and his attorney were not returned.) “Mario’s behavior is embarrassing to me and my daughter,” Singer says. “I’m not some pushover. I’m a strong, successful woman. I need someone who is going to treat me with love and respect” … But after working to repair their broken trust, Singer says she grew suspicious of Mario once again when he came home late July 14, saying he got lost when he took a bus home. “I knew he was lying,” she recalls. “I knew something was weird.” “I just felt that he had had contact with her again,” she says. “I could just feel it. A woman just has intuition. I know my husband.” Confronted by his wife, Mario eventually confessed to getting together with Dexter to comfort her over an ailing relative, Singer says. “I said, ‘I just can’t do this anymore. I don’t need this anymore,’ ” she tells PEOPLE. “Don’t say you want to make the marriage work and then go and then be deceitful. That’s a betrayal to me and my daughter.” Now, Singer says divorce feels like the only option. “I felt it was very important not to leave the marriage until I tried to do everything to make it work. Then if you leave, you have no regrets and never look back,” she says. “And I have no regrets.”
Ramona also revealed that she was ready to divorce Mario back in January but he promised to stop cheating and they went into therapy together to try and repair their marriage. Clearly, it didn’t work.
