Ifeanyi Ubah United Trashed Warri Wolves 2-0

Nigeria Premier League debutants Ifeanyi Uba United Football Club began the season on a winning note against highly fancied Warri Wolves Football Club in the opening week. They were at the receiving end last weekend as they succumbed to Sunshine Stars of Akure 2-1.

The newly promoted Anambra State kings were almost achieving their dream of earning at least one point from the encounter.

Chukwudi Stephen looked to have rescued a point for the visitors, but the hosts struck late on to take all three points

The tension soaked game saw the hosts shoot into the lead in the first half before the visitors restored parity from the penalty spot, with the home team getting the winner with few seconds to the end of the game.

On resumption of the second half, the visitors put every foot right and caused moments of panic for their hosts but had their efforts curtailed by Kunle Odunlami and ultimately Mutiu Adegoke who occasionally made some attacking runs into the opponents defence.

Chukwudi Stephen leveled up for the visitors from the penalty spot in the 65th after referee Fagge Ibrahim had pointed to the spot for a rough challenge on Okereke Abuchi.

They continued to press for a second goal and were fortunate when Chibozor Okonkwo’s long range missile was saved by goalkeeper Danladi Issah.

With less than a minute to go, Adeniji gave the fans something to cheer about as he sealed the winner to silence the resilient visitors.
